Shoes. OMG! Shoes.

22 04 2012

Aside from the fact that I’ve probably gotten that lovely “song” from that YouTube video in your head (and mine), I really am here today to talk about shoes.

Let’s just say I am counting down the days until I can wear my precious Birkenstock sandals again. I can’t wait until it is warm enough and stops raining enough for me to wear my Gizeh sandals in onyx!

I don’t wear high heels all that often, nor do I dress up, really. But for my wedding I just might need something that looks good, too! So I’m in the market for a good pair of heels at the moment. It’s currently Sunday, so that means it’s impossible to do any real shopping here in Germany, as all the stores are closed on Sundays. (One thing I REALLY miss about the USA…) So I am online shopping instead…here are a few of my favorites!

1. Buffalo Patent Peeptoe in coral

2. Görtz 17 Gold Glitter Pumps

3. Görtz 17 T-Strap Sandalette

(But I would definitely get rid of that pink charm!)

4. seven seconds Sandalette @ Zalando

But online shopping is fun, too – it allows me to shop in the States!

My favorite from Payless, Fioni Color Block Sandal

What kind of shoes did you wear at your wedding? My sister-in-law had flats to wear, but in the end didn’t wear any the whole day! Nobody knew because she had a long dress!

Memorial Day

30 05 2011

Happy Memorial Day to my US readers, and many warm thoughts to all those who serve, have served, and who have loved ones in the military.

And happy 3-day weekend!  I was a little jealous, but ended up not having any classes this morning, so it’s almost a 3-day weekend for me too.  A little 3 hours of work is great, actually, because I went shopping today…

These are all from H&M.  The one on the right is a skirt, and the other three are tops.  And I got some fun bracelets too.

I’m a little late on the nautical stripes trend, but it’s back this summer and I finally caved.  (Note that Tobias and I made fun of this together on our road trip because at the time there were SO many people wearing blue and white stripes that we saw something like 38 different people in one day.)  I’m really not up on most current fashion trends.  I usually go more for comfort than style.  But last night Tobias said he thinks I’d look good in a long dress.  I told him I’m not sure I’m a fan of the maxidress (or is it maxi dress?), but that perhaps I’d try it.  Just for him.

Besides, I must admit that I started to change my mind about this long style when I saw how well my favorite style icons Keiko Lynn and Kendi (from Kendi Everyday) pulled it off!  Aren’t they just gorgeous?

Road trippin!

22 04 2011

With temperatures in the low 70s (a.k.a. PERFECT WEATHER), there could be no better weekend to go on a road trip.  We’re going to drive up north to where there is some water and just hang out by the beach, relax, and do some camping.  I’m excited!

I’m also excited about the fact that today is the first day it’s been warm enough (and I’ve been brave enough) to wear sandals.  Oh, how I’ve missed my silver Birkenstocks!

Do you have any spring/summer clothing or shoes that you’re excited to be reunited with after the long winter?

Snip, snip!

8 07 2010

My hair had gotten very long this past year.  It’s the longest it’s been since I was a kid.  And, while long hair can definitely be beautiful, it’s 1) hard to manage and hurts to brush through, and 2) it just gets to a certain point where it stops being beautiful and starts looking frumpy.

So, on the first day of this month, before leaving for the States, I got a haircut.  Tobias was a dear and made the appointment for me, requesting someone who is “fit” (or proficient) in English, so I could better explain what type of haircut I wanted without having to know all of the necessary German vocabulary.  (It made the process a lot less scary!)

When I got there, a really friendly, hippyish blonde woman with super-short bangs welcomed me.  I spoke mostly German and was quite proud of myself.  She was patient with me as I tried to describe what I wanted to do, and thankfully she understood the words I wasn’t able to translate into German.

It was a very successful experience!  I ended up with a great haircut for 35€, and I even had fun chatting in German with the hairdresser.  It felt great.  (Not to mention the fact that I love, love, LOVE getting my hair shampooed at the salon…it’s like a massage!)  And, most importantly, I love my new haircut!

Since it was so long, I also wanted to donate my long hair to Pantene Pro-V Beautiful Lengths to go toward making wigs for cancer patients.  I’m really glad I was able to do this, since I’m not sure if I’ll ever let my hair get that long again!

So of course I have pictures.  (After all, I had my very own personal professional photographer on hand to take before and after pictures! ;))

Before…

…and after!
